Talk about a glow up (for those of you who don’t get that phrase, it’s when someone or something experiences some monumental transformation for the better, think, the “phoenix rising from the ashes”).

To kick off the new year, OptiShot has released an updated version of its BallFlight launch monitor and, visually, it’s a substantial improvement over the first version of the Ball Flight (pictured below)

The past year or so has brought with it a massive push into the consumer simulator marketplace. While launch monitors like the Trackman and Foresight GC Quad were largely commercial products received for simulator venues and fitters, brands like Optishot—arguably one of the earliest pioneers in the consumer simulator space with the OptiShot and OptiShot2—have made it a priority to provide golfers with an accurate, high quality simulator experience in their homes without the 5-figure price tag.

The new generation BallFlight—which is listed at $3,999—is capable of measuring club and ball data with its high speed cameras and high-intensity infrared sensors.

OptiShot has not yet posted a complete list of all data metrics, but one imagines that it would at least provide the same metrics provided on the first generation BallFlight: Total Distance; Carry Distance; Backspin; Ball Speed; Distance; Vertical Launch Angle; Horizontal Launch Angle; and Club Speed.

The second generation BallFlight is usable indoors and outdoors, and comes out of the box with 20 real-world golf courses to test your game on.

The price tag currently places the BallFlight in line with the FlightScope Mevo+ ($1,749, $2,549 with Pro Package), Bushnell Launch Pro ($3,499, with various package add-ons) and Full Swing KIT ($4,999).

The Mevo+ is an established option that has demonstrated Trackman-rivaling performance for approximately a 1/4 of the price, while the Launch Pro and KIT are both newer options developed by established simulator developers.

The PGA Show is scheduled for later this month (January 24th to 27th), so you can anticipate that this could be one of the highlights of this year’s show.
