Greg Norman and Verizon Unveil New Technology
It was reported a few weeks ago that Greg Norman and Verizon had something big coming for the golf world on the technology front. Now, the two have officially unveiled their new advances that are set to change amateur golf forever.
Norman’s company and Verizon launched a new golf cart experience aptly named the Shark Experience. The new touchscreen technology is available on golf carts from the manufacturer Club Car and powered by the GPS company GPSi.
The new technology will have different capabilities depending on the level of cart that a player has. On the most basic cart, the touchscreen will have the capability of instant measurement to the pin. On the next level of the cart, the screen is paired with built-in Bluetooth speakers that will allow golfers to connect their favorite devices for music on the course. The premium model will even allow players to watch live TV, supporting the options available through Verizon’s go90 app.
While all these features are exciting for any golfer, Norman says there could always be more to come. “It is a platform. It is not a product,” Norman said. “And so any time Verizon comes up with some new innovation or any time Club Car comes up with a new innovation or we come up with a new innovation from a content standpoint, we can put it on that platform. We can forever evolve in a way the industry is asking it to be evolved.”

This innovation has been four years in the making according to Norman and it is now finally ready to launch. The first carts will be previewed this upcoming year at the PGA Show in January. Following that, the carts will be rolled out to select golf courses around the country throughout 2018. Outside of recreational use, Norman is also in discussions with the PGA TOUR to add the carts for some professional events.
Norman’s new venture will certainly provide a unique experience for players looking to have more fun playing on the course. And I’m sure we speak for many of you out there in that we hope that the Shark Experience will be unveiled next year at a course near you.
