Hideki Matsuyama was robbed in London when on his way to Memphis, Tennessee, for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Matsuyama was on a layover in London while on his way to Memphis when his wallet, as well as the passports of his caddy Shota Hayato and coach Mikihito Kuromiya, were taken by thieves. A report from Golf Digest Japan states that Matsuyama is still in possession of his Olympic Bronze Medal, which he won in Paris less than two weeks ago.

The report states that Hayato and Kuromiya will return to Japan and will not make it back to the United States until The TOUR Championship at East Lake at the absolute earliest:

“There’s a chance they’ll make it, but we have to go into it thinking it’s close to zero.”

Matsuyama’s caddy for the FedEx Cup Playoffs will be Taiga Tabuchi. Hideki said:

“I’m glad he accepted. He’s worked with Hisatsugu this year, so I think he knows the ropes, and he can speak English, so I can rely on him.”
