Ian Poulter Disappointed About Mistake that Left Him Thinking He Made it into The Masters Field
Apparently match play events can get a bit confusing even for the media’s most hardened bean counters.
Last week at the WGC-Dell Match Play in Austin Ian Poulter was informed that he had eked out enough points to break into the OWGR top 50, thus punching his ticket to The Masters.
But the good news as short lived. Just a few minutes before teeing off against Kevin Kisner, Poulter was told that there had been a “mistake” and that he had not cracked the top 50 after all.
Just to let you know.. I am not in the Masters, I was told after this mornings round that I was in the Masters by Golf Channel, The Media, @EuropeanTour, 10 minutes before I tee’d off this afternoon I was told sorry points weren’t correct your not in yet. #DisappointingMistake

Poulter went on to lose that match as Kisner came through with a dominant 8&6 victory over the Englishman.

As it stands Ian sits at 51st in the Official World Golf Rankings and will need to pull of an excellent performance at this week’s Houston Open to bump himself up one slot and secure a spot at Augusta National.
