Is Charlie Reiter The Next Big Thing?
A quiet little golf story as the west coast swing (or WCS, if you will) officially kicks off is that of Charlie Reiter.
Charlie is an 18-year-old high school Senior and is making heads turn with his Dustin Johnson-esque club speed and length off the tee.
In December of 2017, Reiter made the cut at his first ever pro tournament, the Australian Open, shooting 74 and 69. He was one of just four Americans to make the cut, one of the other Americans was Jordan Spieth. Reiter qualified for the tournament by winning a junior tournament sponsored by Australian golfer Aaron Baddeley.
Now, the USC commit has his sights set on the CareerBuilder Challenge this week in La Quinta, California, just 20 minutes from his house. He is the first amateur to ever receive a sponsor’s exemption to the tournament.
As any of us would be, Reiter admits he’s nervous. And while he can hit the ball a mile, he knows where the real scoring happens.
“Putting out here is going to be huge. I got to make a lot of putts.”, explains Reiter.
Sounds like a grizzled vet already.
