‘It Makes Me Want to Puke’: Brandel Chamblee Blasts PGA Tour Defectors

After months of speculation came to a head Thursday when PGA Tour pros teed off for the rival LIV Golf organization, the PGA Tour itself, its golfers, and even commentators dealt with the reality that occurred.

After the tour suspended the 17 golfers who are playing in the LIV event in London this week, Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee had some of the most scathing remarks.

In addition to Chamlee’s appearance on “The Jim Rome Show,” he took aim at the group on SkySports as well, saying:

“This is one of the saddest days in the history of golf. Watching these players come together for money and show to the world…they are showing us that they are the greediest, most self-serving, willfully blind players in the world of golf today.”

“So when I hear these golfers saying they are ‘growing the game’… it makes me want to puke. They’re destroying the game. And they are destroying their reputations.”

Two of the biggest names at the PGA Tour event in Canada this week also had plenty to say.

Justin Thomas, winner of the PGA Championship last month, said, “I’m pleased [about the suspensions]. They took that risk going into it.”

Rory McIlroy, defending champions of the RBC Canadian Open, said:

“I think that the majority of the membership that are here this week and that haven’t went and played elsewhere really appreciate [the suspensions]. I think [PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan] has done the right thing because these guys have broken rules and done things outside of the tournament regulations.”
