Jason Day Is Not Happy with the PGA TOUR’s Response to LIV Golf
Jason Day has taken headlines recently for his polarizing outfits from Malbon, which have cut through the traditional look of a professional golfer. Now, he’s in the headlines for another reason, specifically, the PGA TOUR’s response to LIV Golf.
The PGA TOUR lost several big-name players immediately after LIV Golf started operations. Over the years, it’s lost several more. Perhaps the biggest was Jon Rahm, who left for LIV in December 2023.
The fracture in professional golf has rubbed players and fans the wrong way. Day is one of the players who is undoubtedly disappointed in the current state of the game, and said that having two tours is “tough” and “difficult.”
However, he sees the way the PGA TOUR responded to the big-money offerings of LIV as a disappointment as well, especially with the creation of Signature Events.
He feels that the PGA TOUR even feels like it is two separate tours now, especially considering the way the TOUR’s top players are really only playing Signature Events and Major Championships.
He said:
“There are two tours within a tour now if you could understand that. You have the top guys playing the Signature Events, and you have the other side of it, too. I think that just happened purely because of the way LIV came about. And it’s unfortunate, but ultimately, that’s what we’re dealing with now.”
Day seems to share a similar sentiment to golf fans, who have grown tired of the divisiveness, the lack of proper media coverage, and the strength of events.
Who can blame him?
