Jason Day’s Malbon Rain Gear Took the Golf World By Storm — Here’s the Scoop On It
Jason Day’s partnership with Malbon has brought some very interesting looks since the beginning of the year. Some scripting was the talk of social media — in both a good way and a bad one.
But as the Australian Major Champion suited up to take on the rain at Royal Troon at The Open Championship in July, golfers nearly everywhere wanted to know what Day was wearing, and Golficity finally has the scoop on it.
Jason Day’s Malbon Rain Gear
Conditions at Royal Troon were challenging already, but rain arrived as the weekend did and players were forced to suit up in their rain gear. We’ve seen plenty of fresh and unique looks over the years, and plenty of backward hats as a result.
But Jason Day’s rain gear at Royal Troon this year was different and offered a unique look — one that took the golf world by storm, both figuratively and literally.

Malbon is unorthodox, but their apparel is high-quality, it’s fashionable, and it’s great for the modern golfer. I’ve been lucky enough to try out a few pieces over the past year, and their collaborations with a multitude of companies — including FootJoy, Bushmills, Evian, and others — have put it a the top of the list in terms of unique golf clothing companies.
But this rain gear was different. Very rarely do you see people rant and rave about a pair of rain pants and a jacket. What Day wore at The Open was just different.
How to Buy Jason Day’s Malbon Rain Gear
Unfortunately, the rain gear Day wore at The Open was an exclusive piece for Korea, Malbon told Golficity. A special piece sold in Beige and Green, Malbon released this specifically in the country for golfers to enjoy, and it would take a friend willing to buy the piece and ship it to the U.S. for us to get our hands on it.
Malbon details the jacket (translated from Korean):
“This men’s 3-layer raincoat boasts a luxurious appearance. It features a waterproof material with a 10,000mm water column pressure, ensuring protection for extended periods during golf rounds even in the rain. Its stretchability ensures optimal condition and performance even in adverse weather conditions. The hood’s built-in strings offer various styling options and convenience. The back detail includes a ventilation function to prevent moisture buildup inside. The magnetic snaps on both pocket flaps enhance usability, showcasing a high level of craftsmanship as performance rainwear.”
As previously mentioned, it is also available in Green:

Malbon sells the jacket at 419,300 won, which is $304.36. But it won’t be making it to the U.S. anytime soon, as it was a limited launch for the Korean market and won’t be available here.
Here’s a review from a Korean customer:

“I purchased size M, and since it is men’s clothing, the arm length is a bit long. But I am satisfied as it has the loose fit I wanted. I think it would be useful not only when it rains, but also as a windbreaker.”
Malbon Rain Gear for the U.S.
It is important to note that just because Day’s Beige rain jacket is not available in the U.S., it doesn’t mean Malbon does not offer several other incredible options for your game.
As an alternative, Malbon sent me a rain jacket that came as a result of their FootJoy collab, the Malbon x FootJoy Hydrolite Rain Hoodie:
Available for $215, this provides the same rain protection in a lightweight jacket that is needed for those of us who brave the game in the elements. It would look great with black, navy, or even khaki rain pants, and provides plenty of space for things like tees, divot tools, or ball markers in its several pockets.
One issue I’ve had with rain gear is the hood being too large and coming over my eyes when I’m swinging, and I did not have that issue with it when I played with it this morning during some morning drizzle. It kept me dry and warm, and sporting something with the Malbon logo in today’s game truly feels like a pleasure for those of us who love to be fashionable on the course.
I will do a more in-depth review of this jacket this week with more images and information as Hurricane Betty rolls up the East coast.
