Jon Rahm Details Interesting Rules for Wearing the Green Jacket Following Masters Win
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that there is a long list of rules that Masters winner Jon Rahm must adhere to when showing off the green jacket that he won at Augusta National earlier this month.
If you weren’t aware previously, the rules state that the most recent winner can keep the jacket until the following year’s tournament. After that, it must remain in the player’s locker at the club at all times.
But unlike the NHL’s Stanley Cup—which has had some wild times while players get their day to celebrate with the famous trophy—winners at the Masters don’t have free reign to do as they please with the green jacket.
While appearing on Golf.com’s Subpar Podcast with Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz, Rahm said that he was given a document to sign to ensure he abides by the club’s rules with its property.

Among the rules that Rahm could remember off the top of his head:
- The jacket can be worn with nothing less formal than golf attire. No T-shirts, jeans, shorts, etc.
- Augusta National must approve all public appearances the player makes with the jacket. “They don’t like to be surprised,” Rahm said.
- Rahm can also not be photographed drinking alcohol while wearing the jacket.
Rahm also told a story about how the post-tournament winner’s ceremony is rehearsed, and he added that the staff had him try a few jackets on to see which one fit the best before heading outside for the presentation.
