Jon Rahm Going Into U.S. Open With a Foot Issue: ‘It’s a concern’
After a few blistering years on the golf course, Jon Rahm isn’t having the success he’s accustomed to so far in 2024. At least on the course – things are going well off of it.
And now, a foot issue is hampering his game at an inopportune time.
Rahm explained Tuesday morning in Pinehurst, North Carolina, site of this week’s U.S. Open:
“It’s a lesion on the skin. It’s a little hole between the pinky toe and the next toe. I don’t know what happened, but it got infected, and the pain was high.”
Rahm was forced to withdraw from LIV Golf’s event in Houston during the second round on Saturday because of the issue.

As for this week, Rahm says it’s feeling better, but the 2021 U.S. Open champ is still not sure how it’s going to react.
“It’s a concern. It’s doing better but definitely still in pain.”
“The infection is now controlled, but there’s still swelling and there’s still pain. There’s a reason I walked out here in a shoe and a flip-flop, trying to keep the area dry and trying to get that to heal as soon as possible.”

When asked if he withdrew from the LIV event as a precaution to stay healthy for the U.S. Open, the recent signee to LIV didn’t say so directly. One would expect that he would not say he withdrew from a LIV tournament to ensure that he would be healthy for a non-LIV event.
Rahm said:
“Could I have dragged myself out there and posted some kind of score? Yeah, but I wasn’t making the swings I wanted to make and could’ve hurt something else.”
Before the WD in Houston, Rahm had seven top-10 finishes in as many starts on the LIV circuit but hasn’t contended for any victories. He has been a non-factor in the majors, finishing 45th at the Masters and missing the cut at the PGA Championship.
