Jon Rahm Reaches New OWGR Milestone, But It Is Not a Good One
Jon Rahm has reached a new milestone on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), but it is certainly one he will want to forget.
Rahm has officially dipped outside of the Top 50 on the golf ranking, his first time outside of that number since 2017. Rahm is officially listed at #52.
The Spaniard has been dipping ever since he left the PGA TOUR for LIV Golf in late 2023. Rahm was perhaps the biggest bombshell signing for LIV after the initial group departed from the TOUR throughout 2022.
For the first time since 2017, Jon Rahm is now outside of the top 50 on the OWGR.

LIV Golfers are not able to earn OWGR points on their tour, only through sanctioned events that occur at the Major Championships or on the DP World Tour. Their play on LIV does not contribute to their world ranking, which is why some of these players fall out of what most would say is “relevance.”
This point has been listed as one reason the OWGR is inadequate and unfair to those players, especially as it can impact their ability to play in the Majors if they do not have other routes of qualification, something several tournaments have established over the past few weeks.
Rahm is highly regarded as one of the world’s top players, even with his decision to go to LIV, which has impacted his OWGR ranking considerably. With that being said, there is definitely some evidence that he has cooled off since leaving the PGA TOUR.
Last year, he placed T45 at The Masters, missed the cut at the PGA Championship, did not play in the U.S. Open due to injury, and finished T7 at The Open Championship.
