Junior Golfer Follows Up Ace with an Albatross

The odds for a hole-in-one are 12,000 to 1.  The odds for an albatross are 6 million to 1.   Would you believe it if we told you a 16-year old accomplished both; back to back holes?

Now, we’re used to seeing junior golfers put up amazing numbers and do some amazing things on the course, but what 16-year old Thai junior Conor Kelly did in Massachusetts sounds nearly impossible. Finishing up his front nine, Conor  approached a par-three with his five iron, striking it perfectly for an ace. That gave him a lot of momentum going into the par-five ninth hole.

And as if he wasn’t already lucky as can be, Kelly hit a perfect drive down the fairway and then pulled out his four iron to take a shot at the green in two. Well, not only did he reach it, he drained the shot for an albatross! So if you’re keeping track, yes, this kid made a hole-in-one followed by an albatross in consecutive holes.

If you’re having trouble believing this, it’s all backed up by the judges that were at the event and the official scorecard was posted to prove it. The funny part is that after all that trouble and excitement, those two holes singlehandedly put him five-under par for the front nine after he was even through the first seven holes.

This feat has to be considered as one of the most incredible in golf history, regardless of level. The odds of hitting a hole-in-one or albatross, in general, is astronomical. Hitting them both in the same round is even more unlikely. But hitting both in a row? I’m not even sure if that can be qualified into odds it’s so unlikely.

We’re certainly excited for Kelly as this is something he can tell his friends and family for years to come. No word on how he’s doing in the tournament but with luck like this, I’m sure he’ll finish just fine.
