Kemper Sports Buys Florida’s Streamsong Resort for $160 Million

Streamsong Resort, which has called Polk County of Central Florida home for just over a decade, is a bit of an outlier when it comes to golf in the Sunshine State.

It has now been sold from its original owner to a group affiliated with Kemper Sports, which has managed the courses at Streamsong.

While most courses are flat and surrounded by homes in private country clubs, this expansive area that covers 16,000 acres features natural dunes created from phosphate mines in this mostly rural area about an hour east of Tampa. Mosaic, the company that manages that industry, is selling the land to Kemper. Only around 2,500 of those acres have been developed.

In short, this is not Bay Hill, Doral, Innisbrook, TPC Sawgrass, or any other Florida course you’ve played or heard of.

The resort is home to three 18-hole courses that are all on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses.

In addition to the three courses, a short course is being developed. It is also home to multiple practice areas, a 228-room hotel, outdoor pool, tennis courts, bass fishing spots, a shooting range, and spa, along with several restaurants and bars, making it a resort that you don’t have to leave for the entirety of your trip.

The resort has also gained popularity in recent years. When a sale was first explored in 2016, Mosaic was seeking around $90 million. The Kemper sale is reportedly for $160 million.
