Phil Mickelson had plenty to say about the PGA Tour and the Saudi Golf League in an interview with Alan Shipnuck that was published last week. Today Mickelson released his apology via social media.

Mickelson said he gave his many sponsors, including KPMG, Amstel Light and Callaway, the opportunity to pause their relationships with him. KPMG took Mickelson up on his offer and have dropped him for the time being. The company said that the decision was mutual.
KPMG said via email, “We wish him the best.”
What a turn here for Mickelson. One of the greatest players of all time and one interview could ruin his reputation forever.
The most interesting part of Mickelson’s statement is that he claims his interview with Shipnuck was off the record and taken out of context, but at the end of Shipnuck’s article he specifically said that Mickelson never said the interview was off the record or not to use information from the conversation.

Hopefully everything works out here for Mickelson but this definitely isn’t over for him and I’m sure more sponsors will drop him as well. The same thing has happened with Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas in the past and they’ve turned themselves around so let’s hope the same for Mickelson.
What do you think of KPMG ending it sponsorship with Mickelson?
