Arizona Cardinals Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald Sees Golf in his Future

Larry Fitzgerald is undoubtedly one of the best wide receivers to ever play football. He’s coming off of another stellar year with the Arizona Cardinals, where he has set many franchise records while sitting in the top five of almost every receiving category in the history of the NFL.

Now, Fitzgerald is tasked with deciding his football future and if he wants to continue playing. One sport he does see future, however, is golf.

As is to be expected, Fitzgerald has gotten a ton of questions regarding football and if he will return to the Cardinals next season. Those talks have intensified since the Cardinals’ season ended on Sunday. All Fitz had to say was, “I don’t have any timetable. Go play golf tomorrow. Tuesday play golf again. Wednesday I’ll play golf. Thursday I’ll play some more golf and we’ll figure it out as we go.”

And when Fitzgerald says he’s going to play golf, he’s not just going out there to hit some balls around the course, he’s there to play. But Larry might need to hit the course sooner than later to help out his numbers.

In the last two months, Fitzgerald’s handicap has soared to over 11 after sitting at 6 at the start of the NFL season. Some of that is likely due to football wear and tear but he probably wants to get closer to 6 again.

And if Fitzgerald is able to get that handicap back down to that level, it’s conceivable to think that he could compete on a semi-pro golf circuit to say the very least. There are precedents for former sports stars getting onto the golf course, including Tony Romo’s attempts to qualify for the U.S. Open and Jerry Rice attempting to play on the Web.com Tour. And most recently, Steph Curry did compete in a Web.com Tour event.

So if Larry really puts his mind to it and golfs as much as he expects to over the offseason, he could get really good really fast. And if he does, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him compete in something a little more professional than the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
