Matt Kuchar Battles Dizzy Spells at RBC Canadian Open

Matt Kuchar is one of the steadiest players in all of golf and he showed that steadiness at the Open Championship this past weekend. Steady was the furthest thing from what Kuchar was in Canada on Thursday, however.

After arriving in Canada shortly after his runner-up finish at Royal Birkdale, Kuchar began his round at the RBC Canada Open on Thursday. During that round, Kuchar had many instances where he was struck by some dizziness. It got so bad for Kuchar at one point that he was even visited by an on-course medic.

“I had a couple of spells where I got a little bit dizzy and I felt weak. I don’t know where it came from,” Kuchar explained to reporters after his round. “I’ve had plenty of time to get over the travel. Hopefully it’s just something that passes real quick.” Despite these dizzy spells, however, Kuchar was able to turn in a pretty solid round.

While battling his dizzy spells, Kuchar was able to shoot his way to a one-under 71. He began his round by making four birdies in his first eleven holes but started to take a step back on his back nine, carding a double bogey and a bogey to finish. That puts him six shots back of early leader Hudson Swafford, still in contention.

And anyone who has watched Kuchar play in Canada should know not to count him out heading into the next three days. In previous appearances at the RBC Canada Open, Kuchar has finished as the runner-up and has had two top-ten finishes in the tournament. He’ll hope to replicate that teeing off tomorrow afternoon next to Graeme McDowell and Bubba Watson.

It’s good to see that Kuchar’s dizziness didn’t affect his play and hopefully it won’t be a problem for him the rest of the tournament.
