Mito Pereira’s Nightmare 18th Hole Costs Bettor a Six-Figure Payout
After shooting a 64 in Friday’s second round, Mito Pereira was leading the PGA Championship and not only trying to win his first major, but his first PGA Tour event of any kind.
The Chilean found himself out front going into Sunday’s final round. But during Friday’s masterful 18 holes, a professional bettor who goes by @RufusPeabody on Twitter found some value and went with it.

300-to-1 odds on a leader is great, no matter how unheralded the player is, and Rufus went for it with a $500 bet to pay $150,000.
As veteran Justin Thomas and upstart Will Zalatoris were making a charge, Pereira lined up a birdie putt on hole 17 at Southern Hills that would’ve given him a two-shot lead. But the putt came up inches short, and that seemed to rattle the 27-year-old, who said his nerves all day Sunday were off the charts.

Pereira then sliced his tee shot on No. 18 into the water and carded a double bogey. Instead of winning the tournament with a par or joining the playoff with a bogey, Pereira’s nerves got the best of him going into the biggest hole of his career.
Unfortunately for Rufus, a six-figure payday went out the window, but just like any great professional, he’s not dwelling on the losses, taking things one day at a time, it is what it is, and any other sports cliché you can think of.
Love when ppl say “hope you hedged” Like what does that even mean 😂
