MUST WATCH: Nelson Cruz Obliterates Ball at Topgolf

Topgolf has become one of the most popular destinations around the country for families, friends, and even celebrities. While a lot of these celebs are pretty terrible at the game, some athletes are showing off some crazy golf skills.

One of the people who’s simply blasting golf balls is Nelson Cruz. For those who are unfamiliar with Cruz, he’s a power hitter in the MLB. He has experience playing for several teams in his career and well-traveled, but the one constant that has always been there is his power-hitting stroke. He’s consistently hitting 30 dingers a year, usually more. And that power also translates onto the golf course.

Cruz posted a video a few weeks ago when he was at Topgolf and it’s now starting to go viral. Usually, when that happens, it’s because the subject has a hilariously bad swing. Cruz on the other hand, is going viral because he absolutely obliterated a ball.

If you watch the video, you can see the ball sail clear over the netting in the back left corner of the setup.

It was an absolute moonshot, and I would have to guess that he cleared those nets. They were about 275 to 300 yards back. That’s almost Dustin Johnson level.

Cruz is aware of what he accomplished and asking he is his followers if he could be a professional golfer in Spanish after hitting the shot. We don’t know if Cruz hit every golf ball that way or if this shot was a fluke. It’s safe to say I think he might want to pump the brakes on going pro.

The more impressive part in my mind is how good his form is. He doesn’t move around in his stance and just uses a quick, compact swing to send the ball jumping off of the club. Cruz is a bigger guy too, making it harder to make that swing work consistently. That’s obviously a problem with bigger athletes, just as Zion Williamson illustrated when he broke his driver earlier this year.

I’m still amazed by how far Cruz hit that ball but I would love to see if he can repeat that shot. If he can, who knows, we might be seeing the 38-year-old playing a lot more upon his baseball retirement.
