NEWS: Tony Romo Receives Sponsor’s Exemption to Play in Vertix Bank Championship

It appears former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, and current CBS analyst Tony Romo will make his return to the Korn Ferry Tour for the Vertix Bank Championship.

The event is set to be held in Arlington, TX from April 22-25. Romo also accepted a sponsor’s exemption to the tournament in 2020, but was never able to tee it up, as the event was cancelled due to COVID-19.

This will be the first time since July of 2020 that Romo will be competing in a Korn Ferry Tour event. His last time out, he withdrew early from the Price Cutter Charity Championship due to a wrist injury. He played just four holes.

Romo, who is most recognized for his 14 seasons spent playing quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, is definitely no scrub when it comes to golf. Romo is said to be a 1.9 handicap, and has competed in four PGA events since 2018. While he failed to make the cut in all four, he was able to shoot an opening-round 70 at the Safeway Open.

Without a doubt, Romo isn’t just trying to make headlines with his golf game, he’s trying to win and be competitive with the best in the world, and he’s serious about improving. Romo spends a lot of time working on his game, when it’s not football season, of course.

“I would say, starting off the year if it’s not in the football season, which changes obviously when I have to travel and for games, ya know, but I’ll be out there for a good six to eight hours, once in a while.” Romo said in his appearance on the SubPar podcast. “At its core, as a kid I wanted to grow up and play sports, in some fashion.”

While Romo has definitely accomplished his childhood dream of playing sports, in some fashion, it seems that he has his sights set on being a multisport athlete, not just a football player. Without a doubt, his experience going from an undervalued, and undrafted free agent to a star NFL quarterback will serve him well as he tries to make a splash in the world of professional golf.

This idiot again! Tony you’re taking spots from MEN trying to earn a living and get to the PGA Tour. The tournament director is a reprobate, unaccomplished, incompetent and off the charts wrong on this.
Go win the Texas state AM first buddy. You couldn’t win a quality club championship!! Never mind ANY state AM event. Injuries? Bud you played for the cowgirls for 14yrs? You’ve withdrew because of poor play at the NE Am classic loser move. Post a score!!
Also….I’ve heard you like to pencil whip a card now and then?
