Sir Nick Faldo’s 16th season as CBS’s lead golf analyst will be his last, as the golf legend announced his retirement from the broadcast booth Tuesday morning on Twitter.

Faldo will depart the chair alongside Jim Nantz following the Wyndham Championship on August 7. Ironically, Faldo’s final broadcast will be at the same event where he made his PGA Tour debut in 1979 when the tournament was known as the Greater Greensboro Open.

Faldo said that he informed CBS Sports boss Sean McManus in January at Pebble Beach that he was going to retire following this season, which is the final year of his contract with the network.

Faldo, 64, went on to say that he will spend more time in his golf course design business and his charitable efforts.

When the channel resumes broadcasting events in January 2024 at Torrey Pines, Trevor Immelman will be in the lead analyst spot after joining the network in 2019.

McManus praised Immelman, the 2008 Masters champion, in a statement, saying,

“He brings the credentials and experience as a major champion, along with a unique perspective and knowledge of today’s stars, having recently competed alongside them.”

McManus also told Sports Business Journal that he expected to negotiate a new contract for Faldo this year but was instead told by the six-time major winner that he was calling it quits.

Immelman, 42, is a native of South Africa and has 11 professional wins to his credit from all over the world.
