PAYBACK?: Rory McIlroy Rumored to Mull $850M Move to LIV Golf
Rory McIlroy has been rumored to be mulling an $850 million move to LIV Golf from the PGA Tour. It could potentially be the ultimate payback to Commissioner Jay Monahan, as McIlroy, who became the PGA Tour’s most outspoken proponent against LIV Golf, was betrayed after the Tour decided to agree to a merger with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Reported by London financial newspaper City AM earlier this week, McIlroy was reportedly offered $850 to move to LIV. Apparently, journalists and reporters at last weekend’s Masters Tournament heard rumblings of McIlroy’s potential move:
City AM, London’s most read financial paper, is reporting Rory McIlroy could be close to joining LIV Golf for $850 million plus an ownership stake in the league. This report comes on the back of strong rumours among media members at the Masters.

However, McIlroy’s move to LIV Golf would be a catastrophic situation for the PGA Tour, as their star player and most notable name would backtrack on everything that has been said about the rival tour.
He would likely lose relationships with people like Tiger Woods, and the TGL simulator league would be in shambles.
We are skeptical of the rumors based on Rory’s loyalty to the Tour. However, there is the likelihood that, after Jay Monahan made the deal with the PIF last year, many players, McIlroy especially, may have felt betrayed.
Nevertheless, McIlroy remains on Tour currently, and there have been no substantiated claims of his rumored departure on Tour.
