We have all seen some pretty impressive victories on the golf course but some numbers are even more ridiculous than you would ever expect. That’s exactly what happened for one college junior this past weekend.

Pepperdine University has a junior golfer named Sahith Theegala who set the golf world on fire this past weekend by having the lowest score in the Waves Challenge by a whopping 16 strokes. He put up that ridiculous winning margin by shooting 11-under over 54 holes. That made Theegala the only player to shoot under par in the tournament.

Not surprisingly, the work that Theegala put in resulted in his team taking home the victory. Pepperdine was able to beat every opposing school by an absurd margin of 37 shots in the California based tournament. This notched another win for the Malibu based school while also giving Theegala his second career victory.

While it may look like Pepperdine is a college golf powerhouse, there are some reasons to temper expectations about the entire team. For one, they were the highest ranked school in the tournament, ranking 49th, with the next best teams ranked in the 80s. Additionally, Pepperdine has Theegala who has experience in PGA TOUR events.

Theegala is the real big story here, as he has shown great promise as an amateur with Pepperdine. He competed as an amateur in the Genesis Open, made the cut, and finished T-49th with the pros. And for perspective on his 16 shot thumping of the competition, that victory is a larger margin than when Tiger Woods won the 2000 U.S. Open by 15 strokes.

Overall, it looks like Theegala is going to be a very good golfer for a long time. We’ll see if he can take that talent and carry Pepperdine to school championships later this year.
