PGA Pro Responds Well to Being Bumped from Field by Tiger

Being put into a tournament isn’t such a sure thing for Tiger Woods anymore but his name still carries a lot of clout in the golf world. And that’s something one PGA TOUR pro learned first hand this week.

PGA Professional Jonathan Randolph has been enjoying one of the best seasons of his professional career, finishing third in the Sanderson Farms Championship and earning one of the final spots in the Valspar Championship, or so he thought. Instead of being the last one in, Randolph was knocked out by Tiger after he announced that he would be playing.

Instead of wallowing in his loss, however, Randolph was actually pretty calm about the whole situation. He tweeted that the Tiger Woods effect is a real thing and that he feels the hip check of being knocked out. But he also called Tiger the GOAT and made sure to add the hashtag, “I’m Not Even Mad” to the end of the tweet.

For Tiger this is a great opportunity to build upon his recent success. On top of announcing that he’ll play in the Valspar Championship this weekend, he also announced that he will play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational the week after. This coming off of a strong showing in the Honda Classic, where he finished even par for a 12th place finish.

As for Randolph, he did receive a happy ending in this situation. A few hours after getting bounced for the former number one in the world, he found out that he was back in after Patton Kizzire dropped out of the tournament, opening a spot up again. And even though he’s now #143 out of 144, Randolph is happy to be heading down south.

Ironically, Kizzire played with Woods last week at the Honda Classic so it all comes full circle. The only thing that could make this story better would be for Woods and Randolph to play in the final group on Sunday.
