Let’s just hope this doesn’t end up getting played out like The Match.

The PGA TOUR has announced the third iteration of the Creator Classic, which will take place at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, host for the Truist Championship.

The event, which is scheduled for May 7th, will consist of four three-person teams, each featuring one YouTube creator and two golf creators, competing on Nos. 10-17 in an alternate-shot, gross-score format. After the conclusion of play, the two top teams will advance to the par-4 18th hole for a hole-by-hole playoff. Groupings and tee times will be announced the day before the event.

As for the participants, as mentioned above, the PGA TOUR has tapped a number of all-new participants, including some non-golf creators:

  1. **Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, eight-time “Call of Duty” world champion and founder of esports organization 100 Thieves
  2. **Marques Brownlee (a/k/a MKBHD), technology influencer
  3. **Tyler Toney of Dude Perfect
  4. **Josh Richards of the “BFFs” Podcast
  5. Paige Spiranac
  6. Brad Dalke from Good Good Golf
  7. Sean Walsh from Good Good Golf
  8. Matt Scharff from Good Good Golf
  9. Sabrina Andolpho from Golf Girl Games
  10. Erik Anders Lang of Random Golf Club
  11. Claire Hogle
  12. Josh Kelley (a/k/a HoleIn1TrickShots)

**Designates the non-golf, YouTube content creators who will be assigned to one of the four teams.

Conspicuously absent are Creator Classic champions Luke Kwon and Grant Horvat, in addition to Fat Perez from Bob Does Sports and Wesley and George Bryan (both from Bryan Bros)—each of whom did participate in the only recently controversial LIV The Duels: Miami event.

Speaking of which, as many are aware, the PGA TOUR recently announced that it would be suspending Wesley Bryan for one year due to his participation in The Duels, but then announced that Grant Horvat would be invited to compete in the Barracuda Championship (July 14–20, 2025).

It seems that while Horvat’s invitation to the Barracuda hasn’t been rescinded, it might be his last invite to partner with the PGA TOUR until a mea culpa is delivered.

Less controversial, but worth mentioning, is the absence of TGL MC, Roger Steele, who participated in the Creator Classics at East Lake and TPC Sawgrass.

Returning to the original premise, it’s worth noting that the PGA TOUR has had mixed results with the Creator Classic. While this doesn’t address the live views, replays of the East Lake (published August 2024) and TPC Sawgrass (published March 2025) have recorded 2.7 million and 1.1 million views, respectively. The 60% drop isn’t promising, particularly when you acknowledge that The Duels has registered 2.1 million views in less than 3 weeks.

Yes, The Duels was initially broadcast on Grant Horvat’s YouTube channel (unlike the prior Creator Classics), but the production differences between the two are stark and, in my opinion, explain the drastic difference in views.

To explain, while the Creator Classics are broadcasts much more like a regular PGA TOUR event, albeit with mid-round interviews with participants, The Duels is filmed in a more authentic, YouTube-style video. And consistent with that filming style, it seems that viewers appreciate seeing a more authentic, raw version of professionals, like Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson, rather than a more filtered, professional-production version of popular YouTubers.

Having said that, it will be interesting to see if this third iteration of the Creator Classic is merely the same thing with some new personalities and at a different course, or something else that keeps it fresh.
