Wesley Bryan Appealing PGA TOUR Suspension
Last week, the PGA Tour decided to choose violence over peace when it announced that it would be suspending PGA TOUR member Wesley Bryan for participating in LIV’s The Duels, a non-competition round that paired several LIV golfers with prominent content creators, including Wesley and George Bryan, Luke Kwon, and Grant Horvat.
Speaking of that last name, the PGA TOUR took, arguably, an opposite position when it also announced that Horvat would be extended an invitation, likely by way of an event sponsorship, to participate in the Barracuda Championship.
Unsurprisingly, the announcement was met with opposing viewpoints; some claimed that it was foolish for Wesley to expect a suspension wasn’t imminent, while others highlighted that this was a disproportionate punishment for what, essentially, was content generation.
Regardless, Wesley published a video commenting on the PGA TOUR’s decision to impose a one-year suspension against him. Rather than choosing to meet violence with more violence, Wesley thanked the PGA TOUR for everything it had provided him and stated that he would exercise his right to appeal the suspension.
In the video, Wesley explains that when given the opportunity to participate in The Duels alongside numerous Major Champions and create content, it was an obvious choice. This seems like a wise choice, given that the video has garnered over 2 million views in just a few weeks.
While it’ll be interesting to see how the appeal process plays out for Wesley, it’s worth noting that it’s not as simple as claiming this was a content creation opportunity. Indeed, the Duels participants were competing for a share of $250,000, and I anticipate that will be a focus of the PGA TOUR’s arguments for suspension.
Regardless, this seems to be the latest confirmation that the PGA TOUR-LIV negotiations aren’t going as well as many of us hope.
