After announcing the new structure for the 2024 PGA Tour season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando last month, the PGA Tour released some new details on how things will work moving forward.

Included in the memo sent to players earlier this week was information on the new fall event series and a major boost in FedEx Cup points for the majors and designated events.

If you recall, the top 50 who qualify for the BMW Championship during this year’s FedEx Cup playoffs will be eligible for the eight designated events in 2024. Those events will feature around 70-80 golfers, big purses, and no cuts. In addition, we’ve learned that 700 FedEx points will go to the winner of a designated event (up from 550 this year), and twice as many points will go to the top 20 in those events as compared to a “full-field” (non-designated) tournament.

The PGA Tour will also be transitioning to a calendar-year schedule in 2024. Instead of the fall events becoming part of the following year’s season, they will be part of a separate series. Players outside the top 50 can compete in those events to continue to earn FedEx Cup points from the previous season (in this case, the 2022-23 season).

This is important because the top 125 in FedEx Cup points going into 2024 will be guaranteed a spot in all full-field events, plus The Players Championship in 2024. The memo also noted that players in the top 50 who already secured their spot in the 2024 designated events can play in the fall events if they choose.

Still to be announced: the fall schedule, which events in 2024 will be designated events, and the schedule itself.
