Rose Zhang Sets Single Round Scoring Record at Augusta National Women’s Amateur
Arguably one of the best college golfers, Rose Zhang currently holds a one-shot lead after round one at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. She is currently the No.1 ranked women’s amateur in the world and also the reigning Division 1 NCAA individual champion.
She showed why she is currently the best by getting off to a hot start shooting a bogey-free 66 to set the tournament record.

The Stanford sophomore currently holds a one-shot lead over Andrea Lingell of Sweden, who also turned in a clean card for a 67. As golf fans know, Augusta National can give and take as quickly as it wants with the contouring and fast greens, hard-to-judge winds, tough pin locations, and anything else the course has to throw at you.
Make that three for the solo lead at five under 👍

Zhang had this to say about how a win would feel at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur:
“It would mean the world. This is a championship that no one can really top in terms of the prestige, the venue, and everyone treats us so well. I think that this will hold a special place in my heart. Overall, I’m not really thinking about [winning] so far, I have a couple more days to go and I have a cut to make first.”
The field will be reduced to 30 players and ties after two rounds, while reigning ANWA winner Anna Davis will have some work to do to ensure she makes the cut. Davis was pegged with a 4- shot-penalty on the first hole for lifting and cleaning her ball, which landed in the rough. Players are only allowed to do this action in the fairway. She ultimately made a 9 on the first hole to shoot +4 for the first round. She currently sits in 43rd place, needing to improve her position by 13 places.
