PGA TOUR Takes Big Hit and Loses ANOTHER Tournament Sponsor
The PGA TOUR is set to lose yet another sponsor for one of its tournaments in what is becoming a pattern of companies bailing out as long-term nameplates for golf events.
The Barbasol Championship is no more, as the company has decided not to renew its contract with the PGA TOUR. The Kentucky event, which is held at Keene Trace Golf Club, will now be known as the ISCO Championship as the piping manufacturing company will take over sponsorship rights, according to Sports Business Journal.
ISCO will hold the sponsorship title for the next four years. Sources stated the event is likely in between the $8-10M range annually.
The event is opposite the Genesis Scottish Open and will be held on July 11-14. Its most recent winner was Norman Vincent. Grayson Murray won the event in 2017.
The loss of sponsors for events is becoming an alarming issue for the PGA TOUR. Wells Fargo is ending their sponsorship of the Wells Fargo Championship, which was overtaken by Truist. Meanwhile, it appears the Farmers Insurance Open is also considering an end to its sponsorship.
Farmers Insurance also ended their contract with Rickie Fowler last year, stating:
“My contract was up, and I was told they weren’t looking to renew or extend. It was a good fit with them taking over at Torrey, a tournament I loved and was closest to where I grew up. I loved doing the fun commercials with them over the years, it was a great partnership, and it was their decision to scale back.”
With more sponsors heading out, the PGA TOUR has a weird situation on its hands.
