Youngest Golfer in a PGA Tour Event in Over a Decade Is in the Rocket Mortgage Classic Field
While many of us played golf on summer vacation, chances are that we never had a weekend like Miles Russell would have.
The 15-year-old earned a sponsor exemption into the Rocket Mortgage Classic later this month, making him the youngest player in a PGA Tour field in a dozen years.
Welcome to the @PGATOUR, Miles Russell!

Russell already has an impressive list of accomplishments for his age:
- Youngest golfer to finish in the top 25 in a Korn Ferry Tour event, coming in 20th at the Lecom Suncoast Classic in April.
- Only one of two to ever make the cut in a PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour tournament.
- In 2023, won both the Junior PGA Championship and Junior Players Championship.
- Youngest player to be named the American Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year, joining Tiger Woods as the only players under the age of 16 to do so.
Russell, from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, says all that will pale in comparison to what he will feel teeing off on June 27 at Detroit Country Club.
“Ever since I first started playing golf, my dream has been to compete on the PGA Tour and test my game against the best players, and I’m looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month,” Russell said in a statement.
Russell also took part in “Golf’s Longest Day” on Monday, attempting to qualify for the U.S. Open. After shooting a -4 in his opening round, his even-par 72 left him three shots from earning one of seven spots from the qualifier in Durham, North Carolina.

The last 15-year-old to play on the PGA Tour was John Oda at the 2012 Sony Open. The youngest is Michelle Wie West, who was 14 when she teed off at the Sony Open in 2004.
