PGA TOUR Officially Announces TPC Twin Cities Event
The rumors had been flying around for a few weeks now but the PGA TOUR has finally confirmed what we all expected. Minnesota will have an annual tournament starting in 2019.
The PGA TOUR announced on Wednesday that the TPC Twin Cities event will be held starting in the summer of 2019. While dates were not confirmed for when the event will take place, it was confirmed that the nonprofit 3M Open Fund will be sponsoring the event on a seven-year deal. The event will also be a on the FedExCup points schedule.
The 3M Open will be an upgrade from the current 3M Championship that has been played consistently on the PGA Senior Tour for almost 25 years. That event was also played at TPC Twin Cities and will conclude its service on the senior circuit this year with the final tournament set to tee off in the beginning of August.

“3M is honored to welcome the top players on the PGA TOUR to the Twin Cities, and we look forward to the many opportunities this Tournament will bring to support our community,” said Paul Keel, 3M senior vice president of business development and marketing-sales. “We’ve formed a great relationship with PGA TOUR Champions over the last 25 years and are excited to build on that partnership with the 3M Open.”
The 3M Open will be the first repeat PGA TOUR event in Minnesota in over 50 years. The last time a PGA TOUR event was played in the state, Y.E. Yang upset Tiger Woods to win the PGA Championship at Hazeltine. Hazeltine also recently played host to the Ryder Cup, reinvigorating the sport’s interest throughout the state.
This is obviously a big win for golf fans in the state of Minnesota and across the country. The 3M Open should bring out the best golf has to offer and should develop into one of the more marquee events on the Tour moving forward.
