PGA Tour Players are Circulating a Petition Seeking Meeting With Leadership to Address Issues

With all the changes the PGA Tour made over the past couple years to address the competition brought on by LIV Golf, several of the rank and file on the circuit are not happy with how things will turn out in 2024.

A group of anonymous players circulated a petition to all PGA Tour members late last week. The group wants a meeting with PGA Tour leadership to address a number of these issues.

The petition singles out four points that they want to be addressed:

  1. FedEx Cup points allocated to Signature Events vs. full-field events. The petition states that a fifth-place finish in a Signature Event will net a player nearly three times as many points as they would earn in a traditional full-field event with a cut.
  2. The number of limited-field Signature Events on the 2024 schedule.
  3. The PIP program.
  4. Specific PGA Tour leadership, PGA Tour Policy Board members, and player directors.

Also an issue for many players has been the secretive nature of the negotiations between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The framework agreement that was announced on June 6 blindsided nearly everyone associated with the PGA Tour.

Tiger Woods, who joined the PGA Tour Policy Board in August, has said that players will not be kept in the dark as negotiations continue.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan suggested last week that the Dec. 31 deadline to reach a final agreement is a “firm deadline.”
