It is incredibly evident that PGA TOUR players want more stops in the Northeastern United States after visiting The Philadelphia Cricket Club this past weekend for the Truist Championship.

Many of those who participated in the Signature Event this past weekend said the TOUR needs more stops in this part of the country, citing the unique architecture of the golf courses and the culture.

Here’s just a handful of things said by players this past weekend:

  • Rory McIlroy praised the Philadelphia area as a golf hub, stating, “Philadelphia is one of the best places in the US for golf. There’s so many great golf courses around this area. I’ve heard a lot about this golf course, and to play it over the last few days, it has been cool.” He also suggested that a shorter golf ball would enhance the course’s strategic appeal, aligning it more with its original design intent.

  • Rickie Fowler highlighted the refreshing nature of playing at Philadelphia Cricket Club, describing it as an “old-school golf course” and a “special place.” He emphasized that Philadelphia should not take such venues for granted and advocated for an annual PGA TOUR stop in the Philly area, reflecting the players’ appreciation for Northeast golf.

  • Lucas Glover appreciated the Wissahickon Course’s variety and classic design, noting its 7,100-yard, par-70 layout offers “a little bit of everything” with diverse par-3s and strategic options. He contrasted it favorably with longer courses like Quail Hollow, saying, “The architect gives you so many choices.” Glover also supported the idea of more PGA TOUR events at similar Northeast venues.

  • Maverick McNealy and Lucas Glover both commented on the “old-school” charm of the Wissahickon Course, with Glover indicating that its classic design makes it a unique test compared to modern PGA TOUR venues.

  • Patrick Rodgers described the course as “charming” and appreciated its Tillinghast design, noting that PGA TOUR players rarely get to play courses with such architectural character. He highlighted the course’s strategic layout and its appeal as a tournament venue.

When he isn't golfing, he is probably thinking about golfing, but he might be watching other sports, writing, or playing poker.
