Phil Mickelson ‘Probably Should Be Nervous’ About New Memoir From Famed Sports Bettor

Phil Mickelson just got past a 2022 filled with controversy, and his play on the golf course reflected that.

The year started with derogatory comments made towards the Saudi Arabian leadership of what would become LIV Golf, then skipped the Masters and PGA Championship, missed cuts at the U.S. Open and Open Championship, and had mostly poor finishes in LIV events.

When we saw Lefty before the PIF Saudi Invitational last week, he looked healthy and refreshed.

But he still missed the cut in that event.

Now a couple of paragraphs teasing a new book suggest that Mickelson’s 2023 may not be as rosy as he would like it to be.

Billy Walters, who is a famed sports bettor who spent time in prison for insider trading, is coming out with a book this summer called “Gambler: Secrets from a Life at Risk.” Publisher Simon & Schuster said the following in a press release:

“In addition to an against-all-odds American dream story, it reveals in granular detail the secrets of Walters’s proprietary sports betting system, which will serve as a master class for tens of millions of recreational gamblers in America and around the world. Walters also breaks his silence about his long and complicated relationship with Hall of Fame professional golfer Phil Mickelson.”

Alan Shipnuck, who wrote an unauthorized biography on Mickelson that came out last year and detailed many of the three-time Masters winner’s gambling habits, said on “The Dan LeBatard Show” that Walters didn’t speak with him for the Mickelson book because he wanted to save his thoughts for his own memoir.

“Phil’s nervous about that book, and he probably should be,” Shipnuck said on the radio show.

We’ll likely hear from Mickelson in two weeks before LIV’s season opener tees off at Mayakoba in Mexico.
