Pres Cup Smashes Ratings Record and More Demand for Primetime Golf
One of the many themes surrounding the President’s Cup was the ‘much love’ for primetime golf. I was sitting up around 10:00pm EST on night two, watching the team matches and a buddy of mine texts me:

And then I started flipping through the socials and landed on a post in The Golf Podcast Facebook Group:

I probably saw or had the conversation with 100 more people throughout the weekend.
Now granted, we can’t change time zones and force players to play on the other side of the globe for us to get our primetime fix, but I can say proudly that a well-lit course say out in the deserts of Arizona or Vegas, magic could be made. Imagine Tiger coming down the stretch against Koepka at a US Open on a Sunday night at 9pm?
Ratings smashed a new record for Pres Cups by the way:
Saturday’s Final Day singles matches at the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia became the most-watched cable telecast in Presidents Cup history, according to Nielsen Fast Nationals, airing live in primetime on Golf Channel (6 p.m.-12:05 a.m. ET). The final day posted a Total Audience Delivery of 1.742 million viewers per minute (+141% vs. ’15 Final Day), including 1.705 million viewers per minute tuning in to the linear telecast. Viewership peaked at 2.15 million viewers per minute (1.37 U.S. HH rating) from 11:15-11:30 p.m. ET as the United States team was completing its come-from-behind victory over the International team. Saturday also became the most-streamed Final Day in Presidents Cup history.

Either way, the Tiger effect is real, obviously for ratings, I could have told you it would be the most watched 2 weeks ago. Because Tiger is trending. But, I honestly don’t think that event would have even came close to the level of excitement without Tiger. Even with the comeback and everything.
2020 is going to be a fun year on TOUR.
