QBE Shootout to Become Mixed PGA Tour & LPGA Event in 2023

The QBE Shootout is taking place this weekend in Naples, Florida, but it will look quite a bit different in 2023.

The tournament, an unofficial money event on the PGA Tour that teams players up with other pros, will feature mixed teams of a PGA Tour player and an LPGA golfer starting with next year’s event.

Some women have taken part in the event. Lexi Thompson paired up with Bubba Watson last year and is teaming up with Maverick McNealy this year. Nelly Korda is also in the tournament, pairing up with Denny McCarthy.

Billy Horschel, who is teaming up with Jason Day this week, said:

“I think it’s something that needed to be done for quite a while. When you look at the game of golf, the fans want to see more team events, see something different. It’s going to benefit the PGA Tour, but I think it’s going to benefit the LPGA Tour even more in terms of getting more exposure.”

This will be the first full “mixed doubles” event in golf since the JC Penney Classic, which was last held in 1999, with John Daly and Laura Davies taking home the title.

Lack of participation on the men’s side is what led to the end of that event, but nine of the world’s top 50 are entered in this year’s QBE Shootout, so it’s expected that there will be enough headliners to support the event.
