Just one week after Henrik Stenson was fired as European team captain for the 2023 Ryder Cup for joining the rival LIV Golf Invitational Series, reports out of the United Kingdom say that Englishman Luke Donald will be the replacement.

The Telegraph reported that the former No. 1 ranked golfer in the world and three-time Ryder Cup participant would be getting the job.

Donald served as vice-captain for the European team on two different occasions and was long rumored to be a captain for a Ryder Cup team in the future. Vice-captains for the 2023 team are Thomas Bjorn and Edoardo Molinari.

Donald, 44, plays on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tours—he’s playing in the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week in Detroit. While he has not won a major, he reached the top of the Official World Golf Rankings in 2011 and stayed there for 56 weeks. His biggest PGA Tour win was a victory in the WGC-Match Play Championship in 2011.

The Ryder Cup will take place in late September 2023 at Marco Simone Golf and Country club near Rome, Italy.
