DP World Tour Player Amused By Charles Howell III’s ‘Not for the Money’ LIV Claim

A theme of the past few months has been big-name golfers on the PGA Tour—but perhaps admittedly past their prime—joining up with the new, lucrative LIV Golf series.

One of the latest to join in time for LIV’s event in Bedminster, New Jersey, is Charles Howell III, 43, who has three PGA Tour wins in around 600 starts spanning a nearly 20-year career. In that time, Howell III won about $40 million in prize money. If he wins at Bedminster this week, he could pocket one-tenth of that amount in three days’ work.

Despite that fact, Howell said that money wasn’t a factor. Rather, he is excited about the team aspect of the LIV events and also being able to spend more time with family.

Robert MacIntyre, a 25-year-old golfer on the rise on the DP World Tour, took exception to those comments.

MacIntyre later clarified that he has no problem with Howell III or any other LIV golfer joining the series for the paycheck or signing bonus, but he just hoped that people would be honest about their reasons.
