REVIEW: SuperSpeed Golf’s PRGR Black Launch Monitor | Is It Worth It?
Personal launch monitors have gone from an expensive gadget that only people willing to spend an arm and a leg could have in their bag, to something every amateur golfer should have as a tool in their arsenal. Everyone knows TrackMan or Foresight, but I’m talking about the ones the size of an iPhone ready to go whenever you need it. That’s where SuperSpeed Golf’s PRGR Black LM comes in.
Before we get into my review, let’s dive into some of the specs of this device (taken from SuperSpeedGolf.com).
New updates with the HS-130 A Model:
- Extended higher resolution display
- Higher quality Processor
- Ability to Toggle Modes of Measurement (Metric / Imperical)
- Keeps recent history up to 500 Shots
- Works indoors into a net or outside at a driving range
- Higher Quality, Dual, and Faster Doppler Radar Sensor
- New Scientific Launch Algorithms for Increased Precision and Consistency
- Improved ability to read high lofted wedges
Throughout my test, I was outdoors at a driving range. Some of the personal launch monitors have a problem reading the swing when exposed to light. Or, as the user, it’s hard to read the numbers when they’re provided due to the glare off the screen. That wasn’t the case with the PRGR.
95% of my swings received data. Some were missed, and that could be blamed on human error (I’m known to do that from time to time), but for the majority, I was able to see exactly what my swing was doing.
Numbers wise, it has exactly what you want. Club-head speed, ball speed, carry distance, and smash factor. For amateur golfers looking to improve their game, you don’t need more than that. To be honest, just having the carry distance for each club would improve your game by 3-4 strokes per round.
Test
Now, the part everyone is waiting for, how accurate is it? Before you see some swings, just for the record, my stock 9-iron is 160-162 and my stock 7 iron is 185.

The reading?

I’d say that’s pretty good. And the 7 iron?

The reading?

Again, right on the mark.
How to use the PRGR
Set up couldn’t be easier. The device requires 4 AAA batteries to power up (sadly, they weren’t included – so take ’em outta your smoke detecters and get to the range).
When you’re ready to hit balls, power up the device by holding the ENTER button for a few seconds – the screen will come right up. After that, you can select the club you’re using by taping the ENTER button again, and the ‘W1″ in the top right hand corner will start blinking (in the image above, the I7 is where the W1 will be). To lock that club in, just hit the ENTER button again – now, you’re ready to go.
Place the device between 3-5 feet behind the golf ball, looking down the line (meaning, down your target line). It’s now in perfect position to read your shots.
Should you get the PRGR?
The short answer…YES. This device exceeded all expectations and I would recommend it to any amateur golfer (or pro) looking to take the next step in their game.
To me, knowing all my carry distances is extremely important. Finding swings for each of your wedges to really dial in every distance is critical for lower scores. If you’re playing a round, and leave yourself an 80 yard wedge shot and you don’t have any clue how to get it there, you’re in for a long day. With the PRGR, you can find those swings and dial in all distances.
Some personal launch monitors have an issue once you get to longer clubs. They struggle reading 4 iron, 3 iron, 3 wood, and even driver. The PRGR had no issues. It kept up with every club in the bag, and gave an accurate reading almost every-time.
Another great thing about this device is that you can use it for speed training, you don’t need to be hitting a ball for this thing to make you better. It is capable of just reading club-head speed, so it’s perfect to pair with SuperSpeed Golf’s Training System.
It’s also been seen with several PGA Tour pros, included the ‘early walk-in’ king…

Price wise, it’s very affordable. For $229.99 you can add this game changing launch monitor to your bag.

OK, getting a read on clubhead speed is good – but what good is ball flight data when you are hitting range balls?
