Rory McIlroy is All About Preparing for The Masters

While the majority of McIlroy news as of late has revolved around sticking with his pal, Harry Diamond, as his caddie in 2018, it’s very clear Rory is focusing on something else.

Winning The Masters.

After all, it’s the one Major that has continued to elude the 28-year-old throughout his career. And capturing it would mean becoming just the sixth golfer to ever win all four Majors.

For the first time in Rory’s career, he will play eight tournaments ahead of The Masters.

Beginning in January, he’ll play back-to-back tournaments in the United Arab Emirates in both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and Omega Dubai Desert Classic. This is actually normal for Rory. Especially the Omega tournament considering the watch company is one of his major sponsors.

But then things get real.

Rory plans on playing in six tournaments in nine weeks in the states, including three in a row leading up to Masters week. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Genesis Open, the Honda Classic, the Valspar Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the World Match Play Championship are all on his schedule this year.

“I’m not getting any younger,” McIlroy said after announcing his planned hiatus to get fully healthy. “These three months off could give me the foundation to have the next 10 years be even better than the 10 years I’ve just had. Hopefully, that turns a great career into one of the greatest careers.”

After fighting with a rib injury during most of the 2016-2017 season, it seems McIlroy is back to 100% and ready to make a run for the elusive green jacket.
