Scottie Scheffler Won’t Have Ted Scott for Saturday’s PGA Championship Round
Assuming Scottie Scheffler makes the cut at the PGA Championship, he will be without caddie Ted Scott for the Saturday round at Valhalla Golf Club based on one premise the pair agreed on before ever pairing up for a round of professional golf: Family comes first.
Scott will fly home on Friday night to attend his daughter’s high school graduation, Scheffler confirmed during a pre-tournament interview on Tuesday:
“Teddy is going home Friday night, coming back Saturday evening after the graduation…That’s something we talked about from the beginning of our relationship was family always comes first.”
The two have had a very successful business relationship thus far. Scheffler and Scott have won numerous tournaments together, including two Green Jackets at The Masters. However, Scheffler was clear during this year’s triumph at Augusta National Golf Club that, even if he were ahead by several strokes with only a few holes remaining on Sunday, he would withdraw from the tournament and leave to join his wife Meredith for the birth of their first son, who arrived recently.

Scheffler will have to have a fill-in for Saturday, and he has already landed on the perfect replacement for Scott’s temporary absence:
Scottie Scheffler’s fill-in caddie on Saturday will be Brad Payne, a popular chaplain on TOUR.
Payne played college golf at Pepperdine and used to caddie for Paul Stankowski.

Scheffler is currently the favorite to win the PGA Championship this year, as he has performed impressively for the entirety of the 2024 season thus far. This year alone, he has entered ten tournaments, winning four of them, finishing in the Top Ten on nine occasions, and making the cut in every appearance thus far.
Scheffler’s $18.69 million win this year on TOUR has also pushed Ted Scott’s income upward. Scott has made upwards of $1.6 million so far this year, according to Golf Monthly.
