Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose Looking to Start New Streaks in Open Championship Qualifying
Qualifying for the U.S. Open in early June is called “Golf’s Longest Day.” If that’s true, the first week of July isn’t far behind.
Four 36-hole Final Qualifiers will be taking place across the United Kingdom on Tuesday to determine at least 16 spots for the Open Championship, which is later in July at Royal Troon in Scotland.
Among the hundreds of pros and amateurs looking to qualify for the year’s final major are former major winners Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose.
Garcia saw his 25-year run of being in the Open Championship end last year when he finished sixth in final qualifying. His five-year exemption from winning the 2017 Masters ran out last year, and since he’s with LIV Golf, he has been unable to maintain a high enough position in the Official World Golf Ranking to qualify through that avenue.

Former world’s No. 1 player Justin Rose saw his run of 12 straight Open Championships snapped two years ago. He made it last year thanks to a win on the PGA Tour at Pebble Beach earlier in 2023, but he’ll need to shoot his way in on Tuesday.

Fifteen LIV Golf members, including Marc Leishman, Sam Horsfield, Jason Kokrak, Graeme McDowell, Branden Grace, Abraham Ancer, and Peter Uihlein, are attempting to qualify.
Among those already in are fourteen from LIV, including U.S. Open champ Bryson DeChambeau, last year’s PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka, 2023 Masters champ Jon Rahm, and 2022 Open Champion Cameron Smith.
