Shot Scope is one of the leaders in golf shot detection and post-round data analysis. Absent any membership or upgrade fees, Shot Scope is constantly looking to develop and release new features that enhance each user’s experience and aspiration: to shoot lower, better scores. And their new feature might be one of the best yet.

MyStrategy is the latest addition to the Shot Scope mobile app and web dashboard, and allows Shot Scope users to create their own unique strategy for any course around the world allowing them to play their best regardless of the venue. And while MyStrategy might look like its a fancy aerial map, that strategy builder has much more horsepower that allows for data driven preparation.

Ahead of playing, launch the mobile app or web dashboard and select your chosen course and tee box to begin. On the left-hand side of the screen, players will be able to see specific hole stats based on how other Shot Scope users—including those in certain handicap ranges—perform on the hole and, more importantly, how you could perform.

With respect to the latter, simply select a club and detailed statistics will appear on the left of the screen and, with it, a dispersion cone based on the user’s averages. With this information, you can take into account your actual, playing tendencies and develop a playing strategy that minimizes your chances of finding trouble off the tee, and maximizes scoring opportunities.

For those not immediately seeing the value in MyStrategy, it is worth noting that this type of playing strategy is becoming the norm on the professional and collegiate levels. Indeed, resources like Mark Broadie’s Every Stroke Counts (and development of Strokes Gained Analysis) and Scott Fawcett’s Decade Golf (avidly used by Will Zalatoris), golfers are turning to data to develop how to play their rounds, including tee and approach shot club selections and target lines. And MyStrategy is incorporating that advanced playing strategy in an easy to understand method using your data.

MyStrategy‘s ability to take into account additional variables also ensures that you can do your homework the night before (or, for the last minute preppers, from the car ride to the course or range immediately before the round)  and remove any on-course guesswork. Specifically, by using MyStrategy, you’ll know what your distances from tee box to target and target to green are, using the Performance-Average of the selected club (using data from your last 30 shots), in addition to accounting for the impact of wind and elevation changes.

This can be immensely helpful for those special rounds—competition, vacation and bucket list opportunities—where you’ve never set foot on the course and, as a result, lack the local knowledge.

Notably, this feature will not be limited to just shot tracking users. Indeed, Shot Scope is preparing to release an update to MyStrategy that will allow users to add their own clubs (however, with any dispersion tendencies) and plan their perfect strategy.

And as mentioned at the beginning, MyStrategy is available to all Shot Scope right now and free of charge.  And with my winter trip to Pinehurst fast approaching, MyStrategy offers the invaluable opportunity to prepare for what I’ll be encountering at No. 2 and No. 8 and spend the next few weeks practicing on those shots to make sure I can enjoy the most of my limited time in North Carolina.
