Smash Golf Club, the LIV Golf team headed by Brooks Koepka, has welcomed its newest member.

Graeme McDowell is officially the fourth team member of Smash, joining Koepka, Jason Kokrak, and, surprisingly, Matthew Wolff.

McDowell was rumored to be the newest member as yesterday Smash GC announced that it would solidify its fourth member on Tuesday.

McDowell was on Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC, but was not resigned after this past season. Instead, Smash GC needed a new member after Koepka’s brother Chase was relegated from LIV after not performing well enough to keep his spot on the tour. He has been relegated to the DP World Tour.

Perhaps more surprisingly, Matthew Wolff is still listed on the team after last year there was obvious tension between him and captain Brooks Koepka.

Koepka went as far as to state that there are only three members of Smash GC last year, going on to name his brother and Kokrak, leaving Wolff out of the discussion.

Koepka said:

“There’s only three of us on our team.”

Additionally, he went on to state that he had “tried” with Wolff, but there just seems to be a difference in culture between the two:

“I’ve tried. I’ve spent the majority of the beginning of the year trying to help and trying to figure that out. But I think it’s past its point. I’ve tried. I’ve been very open with it. Sometimes you can’t help people that don’t want help.”

Koepka is known as a hard-nosed competitor, while Wolff has struggled with mental health issues and has taken time away from the game. There was obvious friction through last year, so it’s surprising to see him still in the mix with Smash GC.

Smash GC finished in Tier 3 last season, placing tenth out of twelve teams. Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC won the team championship, beating out Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats GC.
