Over the past three days, celebrities from across the sports world came together at Edgewood Golf Club to participate in the American Century Championship. While the spotlight had to be shared between so many stars at the event, most eyes were on Steph Curry.

Curry garnered so much attention because he recently accepted an invitation to compete in the Web.com Tour event, the Ellie Mae Classic, during the first week of August. So for Curry, it was a chance to warm up and showcase his skills before the event. And he did not disappoint, finishing in fourth place behind only three-time champion Mark Moulder, Mardy Fish, and Derek Lowe.

While he started off his tournament with a respectable one under par after two rounds, Steph really got going in his final round. On Sunday, Curry caught fire, shooting a four-under 68, capped off by an eagle on the 18th. Curry was able to hit an approach shot within a few feet of the cup and easily convert the short eagle putt in front of Justin Timberlake.

Outside of preparing for the Ellie Mae Classic, putting together a strong tournament was also personal for Steph, as he made a bet with his father Dell, who also competed this weekend. Because Dell finished 43rd, far behind his son, he was forced to accept the consequences of the bet and take a dip into Lake Tahoe.

Even though he wasn’t able to take home the championship, Curry’s performance shows that he is capable of competing in the Ellie Mae Classic in a few weeks. Of the players he beat, he finished ahead of Tony Romo and Jerry Rice, two players who have come close to qualifying for major tour events in the past. He also beat Charles Barkley, who finished in a distant last despite having a much-improved swing.

Overall, this weekend was a success for Steph and it will be fun to watch what he can do in a professional event in just a few weeks time.
