The Shrimp is Coming to the PGA TOUR
First there was Beef. Now there’s Shrimp.
In case you missed the news on the Web.com TOUR last weekend, the United Leasing and Finance Championship was held this weekend at Victoria National in Indiana, which is one of the hardest courses in the country. The event was a dead heat, pinning one of the top amateurs in the country, Maverick McNealy against Jose de Jesus Rodriguez, a 37-year old Mexican legend. And after entering the final day down by a stroke, Rodriguez was able to pull out a victory, putting Rodriguez in position to make the PGA TOUR.
Not only is it great to see someone at Rodriguez’s age continue to climb the ladder to the PGA TOUR, it’s great to see someone with his track record get an opportunity. As I said earlier, Rodriguez is a bit of a Mexican legend, especially on the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, where he has racked up over 13 career victories, which has launched him to the Web.com Tour.

And not only is he a great golfer, Rodriguez is also quite the character. He has one of the best nicknames in golf, “The Shrimp,” a nickname that he has carried since he was a child. He wears that name proudly, however, as his golf bag features a shrimp on the side. The Shrimp also may have an unhealthy love for his golf ball, as he talks to it and gives it love constantly as the video above will show you.
Despite all of these accomplishments and amazing personality, Rodriguez feels that he has one goal that he has never accomplished, playing on the PGA TOUR. Now, The Shrimp looks close to achieving that goal. The top 25 money earners on the Web.com Tour are given PGA TOUR cards for the next season and Rodriguez is currently sitting #3 on that list. So barring an unforeseen collapse, he’ll be in the big leagues next year.
The PGA TOUR has a ton of characters already but there is always room for more, which should be welcoming to The Shrimp. Hopefully, he’ll be able to keep the momentum going and we can’t wait to see him on the PGA TOUR next season.
