These Sunglasses Might Make Reading Greens Easier

Do you wear sunglasses when you play golf? Why or why not?

I’ve noticed over the years that most Tour professionals don’t wear glasses at all. For the most part you just don’t see professionals wearing sunglasses.

I have heard many players say they don’t like to wear them when putting because it makes reading the greens more difficult. Solar Bat sunglasses is aiming to change that.

Solar Bat sunglasses was started in 1994 by Dr. Gary Nesty as an extension of his optometry practice. Starting out of his home and optometry office Gary has grown Solar Bat into a nice family business. Dr. Nesty and the Nesty Family operate on their own private property, which allows Solar Bat Sunglasses to pass savings on to its customers.

Dr. Nesty is an avid fisherman and when Solar Bat first started getting into the sports performance space his focus was with fishermen and the glare they deal with off the water.

This is when something unexpected happened. Many of the fishermen who wore the green tinted sunglasses found it easier to read the greens when putting. They started giving this feedback to the Solar Bat team and that’s how they started to create a special tint, specially designed to enhance the contours of the greens and make reading putts easier.

I recently received two pairs of glasses from Solar Bat to try out. A brown tint for when the grass isn’t as green as it should be due to high heat or lack of water. I also got a green tint for your more common greens. The green ones are the pair that I tried out the most.

The first thing I noticed is how bright and “high definition” these glasses made everything look. I personally can’t play golf without sunglasses because my eyes start to squint and water pretty easily.

These glasses made it easier to see the course from tee to green. They don’t make the ball easier to see if it’s in the rough or slightly off the fairway but they do make everything around you pretty clear.

When around the green I noticed that it made picking up the slight undulations easier to identify.

There’s no computer chip in these things so it’s not like you are wearing something that tells you exactly what your putting line will look like. Think of it instead like changing the font or brightness on your phone. You could read it before but sometimes a little bigger letters or more light helps.

One unexpected bonus I found with these glasses is that I enjoy wearing them for everything, not just golf.

I was recently on vacation and I lost my normal glasses. I had these with me because I played golf and I’ve now found myself not even looking to replace my lost pair. These are just all-around better.

Solar Bat is using the direct to consumer model like many companies these days so a pair of polarized sunglasses start at around $90. If you wear eyeglasses already, a prescription pair of sunglasses can also be made.

The return policy states that If you are not totally satisfied with the Solar Bat sunglasses you ordered, you can request by email a return shipping label from Solar Bat. You may return the sunglasses you ordered in exchange for another style, tint, or for a refund less original shipping and handling charges.

With a commitment to customer satisfaction, Solar Bat is worth a try for someone who needs to keep the sun out of their eyes, while trying to gain an edge anyway they can. With a variety of designs, tints and even prescription options, Solar Bat sun glasses are certainly worth a look!
