Tiger Commits To Zozo Championship In Japan
Tiger Woods is back on top of the golf world and is feeling like a rockstar. And just like any rockstar, Tiger is going on a new world tour that will feature an appearance in Japan.
Woods announced this week that he will officially be playing at the inaugural Zozo Championship in Japan this year. The Zozo Championship is set to be played Oct. 24-27 at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club and it will be the first official PGA TOUR event in Japan ever.
Tiger appears to be the highest profile player to commit to the event so far but he’s excited about it.

In a tweet that he sent out to confirm that he is in for the tournament, Woods said “I’m excited to play in the inaugural Zozo Championship in October, and return to Japan, one of my favorite countries. It’s going to be a fun fall.” It’s going to be an especially fun fall for Tiger if he heads overseas with some more victories under his belt.

For Tiger, it will also be fun because it will be the first time that he will be back competing in Japan since 2006 when he participated in the Japan Tour’s Dunlop Phoenix where he lost in a playoff to Padraig Harrington. It will also be the first time that Tiger has competed in Asia since 2012 when he had a top-five finish in the CIMB Classic.
That successful track record in Asia could set up for a record-breaking scenario in Japan. Woods is currently sitting on 81 wins on the PGA TOUR which is only one behind Sam Snead for most ever. So unless Tiger wins two events from now until October, his fans in Asia may be there to witness history. But even if that doesn’t end up being the case, I’m sure fans will be ecstatic just to see him in the flesh.
Overall, this is a great thing for the PGA TOUR to have its biggest star champion its efforts to spread the game worldwide. No matter what happens leading up to the tournament, Japan looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
