Tiger Woods Doesn’t Care If He Intimidates You
Ever since returning to the PGA TOUR full-time, there has been a lot of talk about Tiger’s aura on the course. But Woods couldn’t care less what you think about playing with him.
In a recent video was released during one of Tiger’s clinics at his Tiger Jam event, Woods was hitting some balls on the range and handing out advice to the golfers in attendance. One of the biggest pieces of advice that Tiger gave the young players was not to care about how their opponent feels about you and how you feel about your opponent. While this was intended to apply to any player, it seems to sound much more personal for Tiger.
The first part of the quote sounds like sound advice but the second part seemed to allude to him as a player. “I can’t control you. The only thing I can control is me,” Woods told the crowd as he was teeing off. “Now, if I do this more efficiently than you, if you get intimidated that’s your own f—ing issue.” Woods has been labeled as a player that instills strong fear in his partners.

While what Tiger says is true, it’s definitely hard not to be intimidated by the guy. He’s won 79 times as a PGA professional, including 14 majors. And back in the day, Tiger was nearly unbeatable on Sunday wearing his typical red and black garb. Even though he hasn’t been as competitive in recent years, those career numbers and his track record will still stun anyone that plays with him.
Adding to that fact is that Tiger is starting to regain his old form. While he’s yet to win on the PGA TOUR this season, he has four top-five finishes and has shown signs that he can still put up low numbers in majors. Those signs only grew larger this past week, as he finished tied for fourth at the Quicken Loans National heading into The Open Championship this month.
So while Tiger may be right, he can only control you and it doesn’t matter how your opponent feels, players are always going to be intimidated playing against him. And I have a feeling that he’ll soon be showing everyone why that intimidation is warranted.
