Twitter Explodes After Tiger Woods Holiday Weekend Meltdown

Holiday weekends are just not Tiger Woods’ thing. After being caught up in a domestic incident with his ex-wife a few years ago over Thanksgiving, Woods is now back in the spotlight after an incident that took place over Memorial Day weekend.

If you were too busy grilling and catching up with family and friends on Memorial Day to see the initial report, Woods was arrested on a DUI charge early in the morning after an officer in Jupiter, Florida found Tiger’s Mercedes parked in the right lane of the road with his right turn signal on. When the officer approached Woods’ he was asleep at the wheel and had no idea where he was after the officer woke him up.

The officer then proceeded to give Woods the typical tests for a person that appears to be under the influence. Woods failed many of the tests, including walking in a straight line and standing on one foot. To the surprise of many, however, Woods passed his breathalyzer with flying colors. While this was surprising, it makes more sense when it was revealed that Tiger had taken a drug cocktail of Vicodin, Torix and Vioxx. If he’s downing all of those at once, I guess rehab for his back isn’t going all that well.

While he was obviously under the influence of something, Tiger vehemently denies that alcohol was a part of his night. He said in a statement after his arrest, “I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions,” Woods said. “I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”

Despite the apology, many fans couldn’t stop themselves from making jokes out of the situation. There were many tweets that poked some fun at the former star golfer, from stating that Tiger was the driver of the car that plowed into Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore, to using his mug shot and photoshopping it onto a PGA TOUR 17 game. My favorite, however, came in a tweet that said this was his “best drive in years.”

A year that started off with so much hope for Tiger, has fallen into shambles. I’m not sure how many more chances that Tiger will get to reclaim his dominance but hopefully he will be able to move past this event and work towards returning to the course.
