One of the most often overlooked aspects of golf is the appearance fees that some players get paid just to show up to an event. The best in the world are offered thousands if not millions to grace an event with their presence.

Tiger Woods is certainly no stranger to this, as he’s been paid upwards of $2 million just to compete around the world.

He has made appearances in China, the United Arab Emirates, and more location to net a large profit while bringing joy to international fans. But apparently money doesn’t buy everything for Tiger as he recently turned down his biggest potential appearance fee to date.

According to the reports, officials linked to the Saudi Invitational offered Tiger the equivalent of the purse of the event, $3.2 million just to play in the event, which is set to take place in early January. That is a lot of cash to turn down but Tiger decided to reject the offer for reasons that are unknown at this time.

Many speculate that the reason for Tiger’s decision to decline could be because of the news that has been surrounding Saudi Arabia, creating great backlash for any major figures that decide to go to the country.

To be fair to Tiger, however, he’s a pretty busy guy nowadays with all of his work off the course and his triumphant return to the winner’s circle, so he may just have a scheduling conflict that he didn’t feel was worth canceling.

It’s not like the Saudi Invitational is going to suffer much without Tiger. He was certainly their top player to join the event since he was approached all the way back when the Open Championship was taking place, but the event already has a pretty star-studded lineup. Some of the top players who have committed to the event already include Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, and Paul Casey.

While it’s certainly hard to turn down all of that money, Tiger has made so much in his career that $3 million is basically pocket change. And no matter if he were to play there or not, he’s set to have an even more competitive 2019 than he did this past season.
